High School

Growing up, wrestling was the one of my main focal points. I wrote down my goals freshman year and spent afternoons, weekends, and summers working towards them. One summer, I traveled to University of Minnesota to attend J. Robinson's 28-day intensive wrestling camp. We would spend 45 minutes each day visualizing our goals. This sort of meditation, in conjunction with goal writing, helped center my focus significantly. I ended up finishing my wrestling career as the captain of the team, league champ, All-County in section XI, and voted team MVP by coaches and teammates. These achievements superseded expectations by most of my peers. The lessons I learned from this chapter are invaluable. It taught me that success is not determined by aptitude or chance; rather, it's a product of persistence, time, and focus.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

I was eager to attend University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). It was an opportunity to prove my independence and write my own legacy. In the beginning, most of my time was allocated towards the wrestling club and chemistry club. The wrestling club was brand new and required a lot of maintenance, including organizing practices, tournaments, and recruiting new members. The club was in need of leaders, and I was happy to assume the role. The chemistry club was more structured; we attended weekly meetings and organized speakers to delve into their research and share their personal learning experiences. Despite their sharp contrasts, both groups provided me with a home away from home. Eventually I would be deemed cofounder of the wrestling club and voted VP of the chemistry club.

In the latter half of my college experience, I spent three days a week conducting computational research on quantum mechanics with Dr. Michael Messina. In addition to research, I regularly met with Dr. Mark Lammers (the director of the MS in data science program at UNCW) to discuss the role as a data scientist and the new program he started. The field encaptivated me, particularly that applications could be used for a multitude of disciplines and how each application allowed for creative freedom. I frequently used data visualization for insights while conducting research with Dr. Michael Messina and we frequently created regressions to identify concentrations in compounds in our labs. Although at one point I felt that I had already learned so much, I quickly realized the vast opportunity that exists for exploration and growth in the field.

Master of Science in Data Science

After earning my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and minor in Mathematics, I enrolled in City University of New York School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) to earn my Master of Science in Data Science degree. I was intrigued by the CUNY SPS curriculum which offered electives focused on forecasting, machine learning/big data and recommender systems. Soon after enrolling, I frequently completed collaborative projects with peers, some of which were Microsoft employees, actuaries, commodity traders and PhD's. The exposure to credible individuals has become extremely beneficial towards my understanding of data scientists in different fields, as well as new material concerning the subject. Outside of class I continued to educate myself in the field by completing courses through Coursera, Datacamp and competed in competitions on Kaggle.

Work Experience as an Analyst

I began my position as an analyst for Strike Force Maintenance Corporation in May of 2019, shortly after graduating from UNCW. I was originally hired part-time but transitioned into full-time after three months. Strike Force is a commercial cleaning company that covers the Tri-State area with over 100 clients and 150 employees. Since I've become full-time, I've taken on many different roles. On any given day I work in collaboration with the Director of Operations, manage the front-end of the website, set budgets for new clients, assign new leads for the sales teams, and handle varying IT services.
